Sweat Your Prayers
An Ecstatic Dance RitualAfter we come together to cast the circle, we will move into a non-verbal space where the music will ease us into being present with our bodies, build to chaotic abandon, and then ease off into stillness. The experience can be meditative, spiritual, good exercise, connecting, grounding, healing, opening, or all that an more. Imagine a dance party where everyone dances what they feel instead of showing off for others to see. Come prepared to move and be moved!
Sunday, November 8th, 2009, 9:30-12:00pm
Doors open at 9:30am, Ritual begins at 10:00am.
Please come early to change if you need to, remove your shoes, warm up, and adjust to the space. If you must arrive late, please do not enter during the opening circle; wait until the dancing has begun.
COST: $0-$5 sliding scale.
Donations will benefit Orchesis and Councill House.
BRING/WEAR: Clothes you can move in, shoes you can remove for dancing, and an open heart and mind.
Please contact B/T Craig with questions at craigre@appstate.edu.

Bring a sock and we'll turn it into a puppet. Sock puppets have existed since feet met wool. With a modern glue gun, pom poms, felt, pipe cleaners, and your personal additions, we will create a puppet, a character, and a short play. Come with an open mind. We'll be playing in the theater of immediate imagination. Please bring your own sock and any personal additions you care to include.

We will be joined by Director/Producer Mitch Teplitsky and Associate Producer (Peru) Doris Loayza Reyes.
Light refreshments will be provided.
Some comments about the film:
Soy Andina is not just about the Latin American experience. This is a powerful film of interest to anyone wishing to explore cultures, traditions and roots. It is about having the courage to journey to a new land while still finding a way to treasure one's Homeland. This film is for anyone who has ever asked the question: "Who am I" and "Where Do I Belong?" Soy Andina asks life's most meaningful questions and offers thoughtful answers.
- Daria Hajioannou, ethnomusicologist & singer
What a wonderful gift to the world! I have a deep love and respect for traditional music and dance. Projects like Soy Andina reach deep into the wellspring of indigenous culture that dissolves boundaries and connects us all. Nothing brings people together like music and dance. It´s food for the soul!
- Eric Crosby, musician
We've lost the sense of village and family in our big cities, living often isolated lives. We've lost our rituals and seasons, our music and dances. Soy Andina touched a deep yearning for that sense of belonging, of knowing the earth I stand on is solid and shared.
